VINIFICATION:
The Nebbiolo and the Barbera come from the bleedings of our most important red lots, the Freisa is part of our spumante base wine. The Grignolino, actually a field mix (includes some white varieties) was fermented in «partial orange» (with the skins for several days). The blend was made immediately after the fermentation end.

The vineyard: apart from Vigna Chiesa, our main vineyard in Monforte d’Alba that always supplies us with the grapes for our rosé, this year we used for the rosé one part of the Freisa picked in Gallo d’Alba for spumante base.

The varieties: the 2017 was rare and strange by itself: the dryest in 200 years adn among the 5 hotest years for the same period. We picked all the varieties 15 to 30 days before the usual terms with strange analytical data, so the most part of the fermentations was made «blind». We fermented the Grignolino filed mix in «partial orange» like the years before as we liked the result very much. The Freisa spumante base was added in order to spin up the freshness.

The wine: a bit heavy colour, thanks to the «orange» Grignolino and the Freisa (which gave incredible colour after all that heat), much «thicker» than usual (10% more dry extract compared with the 2016 vintage) but with an excellent, vibrant acidity and freshness.

The name: «carina» in Italian means «lovely», but written with a «K» becomes a girl’s name.

The label: the magnolia flower is a symbol of tenderness and elegance.
