The vineyard: the major part of the grapes comes from our own vineyard in Monforte d’Alba (classified as a regional cru of Piedmont since 2017 under the name «Vigna Chiesa»). It’s situated on a West facing hill and is devided into 3 plots that surround our biggest Nebbiolo vineyard. The soil is mostly clay with some limestone and tuff, thus it’s considered “cold”. This permits slower and more homogeneous ripening.

The variety: autochthonous for Piedmont, one of the 10 most planted in all Italy. The preferred everyday red in North-Western Itlay because of its spectacular food pairing capabilities (due to its high acidity) and outstanding versatility.

The wine: one of our first reds of the superb 2016 vintage to be released to the market. Zabaldà has been a top notch all the previous vintages, and 2016 is not one to miss. Multilayered, deep, spicy, meaty, fragrant, voluptuous: these are just a few words to describe its richness.

The name: the wine is named after the ex-proprietor of the vineyard.
