The vineyard: has a fascinating story: in 1971 when the “final” borders of Barolo denomina- tion were drawn the Southern part of Monforte d’Alba also made part of it. But the descendants of the Marquis of Cherasco, a neighbouring village, insisted that their historical vineyards were also included in the Barolo DOC. In order not to change the total denomination surface the government decided to cut a piece of Monforte out, thus Le Chiese made no more Barolo ever since.

With time we figured out that this Nebbiolo was quite different from his Langhe brothers. Located on a West facing hill and on «cold» clayy soils this is the last Nebbiolo vineyard to start vegetation and to be harvested. In terms of polyphenols extraction it beats some of our Barolos. And after 4 years of aging it can be easily mistaken for a Barolo.

The wine: since the 2014 harvest we decided to vinify a small part of the Le Chiese Nebbiolo separately in order to show its uniqueness. The rest of the grapes go into our regular Langhe Nebbiolo Riccinnebbia (not produced in 2014).
