The vineyard: we collaborate with a young winegrower that owns one of the biggest pieces of land in that important cru, definitely the most renouned in the denomination’s North-West part. One part of the vineyard that lays in the upper part of the hill between Cascina Monvigliero & Cascina Mosca was planted right after WWII and faces South-East. The younger vineyard, situated for one part below the old one and for the other on the Southern slope of the same hill, was planted in the 1980s;
The variety: 2014 has been the most difficult year in our winery’s history. The hot and rainy spring was followed by cool and rainy summer that fixed a new record - so much water has never fallen upon Italy since 1820! In September though the good weather came in and the high temperatures and the dry weather saved the vintage.
The wine: in 2014 the most part of the grapes that come from the younger vineyard were used to make our Barolo Aculei. We left though 1 barrel apart to see how it works as a cru. Since 2015 the cru production has been growing, the grapes from the old vineyard make the cru wine and the ones from the younger plot take part in the Aculei blend. Currently we cellar 6 hl from the 2015 vintage, 12 hl from 2016 & 14 hl from 2017;
