The vineyard: are very different from the point of view of age, location and exposition. The older one is located on the Southern border of Neive, on a steep slope facing East, it’s the part that ripens faster and brings more «flesh», fruit and higher alcohol in the blend. The younger one is located in the middle of Roero area, on a mild slope facing North-East, it ripens slower and brings freshness and crisp acidity to the blend.
The variety: the Arneis is an autochthonous variety of the Langhe, once forgotten but recovered in the end of the 1960’s and gaining popularity ever since.
The wine: its delicate nose opens up with notes of white and yellow peaches, pears and wisteria (Glycinia), charming and perfumed. Its precise acidity and intense body make it a good pair for raw fish (sushi, sashimi). Good also as an aperitif.
The name: «ariss» in Piedmontese language means «hedgehog», our symbol.
The label: the word «ariss» apart from the animal stands for the adjective «curly». Which Botticelli’s Venus definitely is, apart from being charming, pale skinned and blond. Despite her somewhat «fluffiness» seems to easily rise up from her shell, just like our Arneis, with fit body but an easy drinker.
