The vineyard: Secondine is a spectacular cru. Perched on a hill near Tanaro, where the ancient port of Barbaresco was located, it oversees the river’s huge curve and is lagely influenced by the main Langhe’s water basin. It also faces South-South West (in clear days one can see mount Monviso from its top) and the combination of all that provides the perfect conditions to obtain Nebbiolo with excellent ripeness and superb quality year after year. The wines that are produced on that hill are so renouned that there’s a book about them and their maker - the most famous man in Barbaresco. The secret is that he owns all the hill apart from this tiny stripe of 0,19 ha that we work on and make our Lurens from these marvellous grapes.
The varieties: The Nebbiolo is the king of the Langhe, the one with a world wide fame for producing wines to last and provide multiple pleasures with age. It’s our love and our passion, the variety that permits to «read and translate» the different terroirs of the Langhe.
The wine: just two 300 l. barrels were produced. The wine is a real bomb, tightly structured and multilayered, with tannins that need some more time to calm down. That’s why we will release the next vintage of Lurens as «Barbaresco Riserva».
The name: Lurens in Piedmontese language stands for Lorenzo (Laurens), a name connected with the laurel tree, symbol of wisdom and victory. There used to be a beautiful laurel on the bord of the vineyard but we were forced to cut it as it cast a huge shadow on the vines.
The label: represents the hand drawn map of the Ronchi vineyard that La Biòca rents from a local family.
