The vineyards: 38% of the grapes come from a very old vineyard on the North-East side of the denomination, the winegrower affirms it’s 100 years old. Light colored clayy soils, Southern exposition and a very steep slope.
The variety: The Nebbiolo is the king of the Langhe, the one with a world wide fame for producing wines to last and provide multiple pleasures with age. It’s our love and our passion, the variety that permits to «read and translate» the different terroirs of the Langhe better than the rest.
The wine: 62% come from the best, most fragrant barrel of the Aculei® blend, that had softer tannins. The «100-year-vines» part was aged in a barrel made by the same supplier, that usually brings depth to the wine, softens its powerful tannic structure, as strange as it may sound, and underlines its floral character. The lots were blended in February 2015 and the wine was bottled in March 2015. We were so fascinated by the result that decided to release this wine as a «riserva» starting with the next (2013) harvest.
The name: „sto lét” in Piedmotese language means „this bed” and if one is 100 years old one definitely needs one.
The label: represents the hand drawn map of the old «100 year vines» plot. It says «planted in 1932» but the data is not official.
