The vineyard: Own vineyards in San Sebastiano subzone of Monforte d’Alba. The soil is predominantly clay and limestone, some gray and blue tuff with sand under 10%.
The variety: The Freisa is an ancient grape variety with unclear origin that is now mostly found in the Monferrato and Chieri zones in Piedmont, in the Langhe area it's nearly extinct. The traditional wine from Freisa is red, light and with some residual CO2 to make it "vivace", very few producers do a rosé sparkling wine from it.
The wine: We took the risk and the result gave us satisfaction. This is a festive wine, light and with a beautiful color, floral and wild berry aromas.
The name: The hedgehog (“riccio” [rEE-choh]) is our symbol. Riccio + spumante = Ricciante.
